5th grade students are exploring the curious world of abstract art. For their first attempt at making artwork that doesn't look like anything, students used map of Illinois to find inspiration for their lines. Here, students are creating thumbnail sketches of different areas in Illinois. They will later pick their favorite sketch and transfer it to a final large scale drawing. 6th Grade6th grade students created paper mache birds to practice for a larger sculpture they are working on. Students created an armature, covered it with paper mache, and finished it with paint.
Kindergarten students discussed different ways to create lines. After painting a variety of black lines on their papers, students filled in the space between their lines using the primary colors: red, yellow, and blue!
