First grade color mixing Students began this project by learning how to make secondary colors using only primary colors. Students drew six different size rectangles to create their own color wheel. Given red, yellow, and blue, students painted the primary colors and then mixed the secondary colors to paint in the purple, green, and orange rectangles. Once dry, students cut out their rectangles to use as buildings in a city collage. Students were encouraged to use their imagination while creating their cities by adding as many details as they could think of.
Students learned about artist Romare Bearden and discussed how he used images of different people to create one person. Students created portrait collages utilizing different magazine images to make a unique face.
First grade students created these beautiful works of art in many stages. In the first stage, students painted a background using horizontal lines. In the second stage, students collaged their penguins and drew an iceberg for the penguin to stand on. After the penguin was attached to the background, students painted snow using q-tips. Once the paint was dry, students created warm clothes for the penguins using scraps of paper. Here are the results!
We had so much fun in Kindergarten making these mixed media baby owls sitting on a tree branch! First we started by tearing strips of brown paper and gluing them down to make the tree branch look like bark. Then we took some cotton stuffing, rolled it into three small balls, and attached them to the top of the branch. We then added the details such as eyes and feet to our baby owls. To finish our piece we used a q-tip and white paint to make it look like it was snowing!
Pablo Picasso GuitarsStudents have been learning about the artist Pablo Picasso and created a cubist background for a Picasso-like guitar. Oil Resist Watercolor PaintingsStudents learned about the magical properties of oil and water for this beautiful snowflake artwork. Students used white oil pastel and then blue and purple watercolor on top. When the watercolor goes over the oil pastel, the oil repels the water revealing their drawing!
Students in pre-k have been practicing using scissors all quarter long! We have focused on how to hold the scissors safely and how to cut correctly. Here you can see students cutting different pieces out of construction paper to create a confetti collage.
