6th Grade Wow, am I in love with these beautiful landscapes the 6th graders created today!! Since I am a painter in my spare time, I decided to do an open paint with the students where they could listen to my thought process and follow along while creating their own painting. Students had the option to copy my work or take my teaching into their own direction. Here are the outstanding results:
Fifth grade students created a unique value scale to represent the moonlight in the sky. Students started with white for the moon and gradually added more blue to create darker values. After the sky was complete, students created silhouette trees in the foreground.
First grade students created these beautiful works of art in many stages. In the first stage, students painted a background using horizontal lines. In the second stage, students collaged their penguins and drew an iceberg for the penguin to stand on. After the penguin was attached to the background, students painted snow using q-tips. Once the paint was dry, students created warm clothes for the penguins using scraps of paper. Here are the results!
Students in first grade practiced drawing lots of spiral lines before completing their final drawing. Here are the beautiful results to all of their hard work!
Second graders reviewed the different parts of an insect such as the head, antennae, and torso before creating these symmetrical drawings. Students drew 1/2 of their insect using an oil pastel. They folded their paper in half and rubbed the paper over and over so the heat of their hand would transfer the oil pastel to the other side of the paper. Once the first half was transferred students had a symmetrical drawing! Here are the beautiful insects being painted!
Kindergarten students discussed different ways to create lines. After painting a variety of black lines on their papers, students filled in the space between their lines using the primary colors: red, yellow, and blue!
DrawingsStudents began this project by studying Van Gogh's 'Sunflower Vase' painting. They each created a vase using shapes and then added their own variation of flowers to go inside. PaintingsStudents finished their work by painting with watercolor over their drawings. Students learned the technique of overlapping paint colors.
Pablo Picasso GuitarsStudents have been learning about the artist Pablo Picasso and created a cubist background for a Picasso-like guitar. Oil Resist Watercolor PaintingsStudents learned about the magical properties of oil and water for this beautiful snowflake artwork. Students used white oil pastel and then blue and purple watercolor on top. When the watercolor goes over the oil pastel, the oil repels the water revealing their drawing!
