These gorgeous works of art were completed in three class periods. The first day, students painted the sky by mixing blue and white directly onto their papers. On day two, students added grass texture using a fork as their paintbrush! On the final day, students used cotton balls to paint their flowers. I just love how unique each of these young artists made their work!

Welcome back parents and students! We are going to have an exciting year full of creativity and critical thinking in the art room. To start the year off, students will be reintroduced to the routines and procedures of the art room and then dive right in to learning. First quarter will be devoted to art history and reviewing the different elements of art. Primary students will explore lines, shapes, patterns, and colors. Intermediate students will be going back in time to explore cave art, Ancient Egyptian art, and Mexican Folk art. Sixth graders will explore the use of motion in art and seventh graders will be creating larger than life size sculptures inspired by the artwork of Claes Oldenburg. Eighth grade students will facilitate a personal exploration of art history ending with a brief presentation on their given time period or artist.
Kindergartners have been practicing many art skills including tearing, cutting, gluing, painting, sculpting, and drawing.
This year in pre-k we have been exploring all of the greatness the art room has to offer. We love to play with play dough and create all kinds of things such animals, pizzas, mermaids, and the list goes on! We also have been enjoying collage work, painting, and learning scissor skills. At the end of every project, we practice care for materials and clean up after ourselves by putting our supplies back and placing our wet artwork on the drying rack.
Welcome back artists! We are going to have an exciting year making masterpieces in the art room. As we begin the year I am asking parents and students to look around their homes for items they may be willing to donate to the art room. Some common items that the art room can always use
are: - Magazines - Newspapers - Buttons - Yarn - Beads Throughout the year, feel free to send your students in with these materials if they become available. To start the year off, the primary team will focus on basic skills in the art room such as drawing, cutting, and gluing. The intermediate and upper teams will be exploring various elements of art through choice based artmaking. As in years passed, student’s artwork will be kept in a portfolio that will go home with them at the end of the school year (excluding K and 1st grade since they produce the most work throughout the year). Preschool flower paintings! Preschoolers were given the prompt to paint a picture of spring! They were encouraged to include flowers in their paintings. Here are the beautiful results!
4th Grade 4th graders finished their unit on Egyptian art by creating Egyptian bust drawings. Students started with a pencil drawing on black sulphite paper. Students were encouraged to draw big and use simple lines and shapes. They then traced their drawings using an elmer's glue bottle. Once dried, the students used chalk pastel to complete their artwork. Students practiced overlapping the chalk to create vibrant rich colors.
