This year in pre-k we have been exploring all of the greatness the art room has to offer. We love to play with play dough and create all kinds of things such animals, pizzas, mermaids, and the list goes on! We also have been enjoying collage work, painting, and learning scissor skills. At the end of every project, we practice care for materials and clean up after ourselves by putting our supplies back and placing our wet artwork on the drying rack.
Welcome back artists! We are going to have an exciting year making masterpieces in the art room. As we begin the year I am asking parents and students to look around their homes for items they may be willing to donate to the art room. Some common items that the art room can always use
are: - Magazines - Newspapers - Buttons - Yarn - Beads Throughout the year, feel free to send your students in with these materials if they become available. To start the year off, the primary team will focus on basic skills in the art room such as drawing, cutting, and gluing. The intermediate and upper teams will be exploring various elements of art through choice based artmaking. As in years passed, student’s artwork will be kept in a portfolio that will go home with them at the end of the school year (excluding K and 1st grade since they produce the most work throughout the year). Preschool flower paintings! Preschoolers were given the prompt to paint a picture of spring! They were encouraged to include flowers in their paintings. Here are the beautiful results!
4th Grade 4th graders finished their unit on Egyptian art by creating Egyptian bust drawings. Students started with a pencil drawing on black sulphite paper. Students were encouraged to draw big and use simple lines and shapes. They then traced their drawings using an elmer's glue bottle. Once dried, the students used chalk pastel to complete their artwork. Students practiced overlapping the chalk to create vibrant rich colors.
First grade color mixing Students began this project by learning how to make secondary colors using only primary colors. Students drew six different size rectangles to create their own color wheel. Given red, yellow, and blue, students painted the primary colors and then mixed the secondary colors to paint in the purple, green, and orange rectangles. Once dry, students cut out their rectangles to use as buildings in a city collage. Students were encouraged to use their imagination while creating their cities by adding as many details as they could think of.
5th graders used their one point perspective knowledge to create a spooky road leading to a haunted house. Students demonstrated their knowledge by creating larger trees in the foreground and smaller trees in the background.
Students learned about artist Romare Bearden and discussed how he used images of different people to create one person. Students created portrait collages utilizing different magazine images to make a unique face.
First graders spent first quarter learning all about lines! They discussed line quality and how there are many different ways to draw a line. Their final project involved drawing themselves with crazy hair made out of all the lines we had discussed throughout the quarter.
